May Fare!

May 17, 2012 – 8:47 pm | No Comment

It’s been a ridiculously busy week on The Urban Grocer, which behind-the-scenes has been thrilling but admittedly less so for content on the site. Looking for inspiration, I went into our archives to see what we were featuring last year at this time. The result was a hodgepodge of comical home wares, striking restaurants, and one standout supper club. I knew I had to share so, without further ado, is a hit list of my favorite blasts from the past (May!).

A Six-Course Lunch on the NYC Subway. The name really does say it all: Six courses of a haute cuisine lunch served on a plywood plank on the L train to some very happy – and surprised – diners.

Moody Mugs, UK. Our readers went bananas for this series of happy, sleepy, and moody ceramic mugs. I still haven’t figured out why, but this is one of our most popular posts to date….

Sqirl, Los Angeles. We profiled our girl Jessica Koslow in a snapshot interview where she delved into her world of knockout jams and jellies in stunning flavors like Blood Orange and Campari, or Seascape Strawberry and Marjoram.

Quench your Thirst. From grunge-chic Melbourne brews inspired by old-school squats, to sweet tea vodka fresh from Texas, May saw heaps of imaginative – and thirst-quenching – bottles that rocked our homepages.

Clancy’s Fish Bar, Perth. If the kaleidoscopic interior doesn’t win you over, perhaps the stunning views of the sparkling Indian Ocean will? Pair that with boutique brews and the best pimped-up pub fare in town and you’ll want to linger well past sunset.
