m cups, 3Bored with your stainless steel measuring cups? We discovered these cute little girls to help measure dry ingredients for your next bake sale. They’re made by Fred and Friends in Rhode Island and modeled after Russian matryoshkas. We like the clever nesting design and the zen-like calmness on her face. They make a unique gift and are certainly charming enough to display on your countertop.

ninjabread menFred and Friends sells a host of increasingly silly products. So we can’t resist showing you the Ninjabread Men cookie cutters. They’re simply awesome, don’t you think? Come to think of it, we could envision an entire cottage industry churning out funny shaped cutters like this. We love the idea of frosting these bad boys.

  • We have those measuring cups and LOVE them… a nice set to leave out in the kitchen while all the rest get relegated to the cupboards!

    Looks really DO matter! ;)

  • My favorite kitchen tool is a mincer press. It makes dicing and mincing a breeze. I use it almost every day.

Oh I so want these! Mt fave kitchen gadget would have to be my mixer. Next to the wine opener and some cute cookie cutters.

It has to be my Benriner Japanese Mandoline – they are one of the cheapest kitchen gadgets but they can totally chef up a dish. I use mine to slice perfectly even slivers of beetroot or cucumber to pickle, or you slice up potatoes for a dauphinoise or a spanish tortilla really quickly. Downside, it has almost had my fingertips off on more than one occasion, in perfect little fingertip rounds mind you.

My fave kitchen item is plain wooden spoon, really!

My Japanese knives, forged by samurai in caves over millennia!

my favorite kitchen tool is my old fashion almond mill (purchased at a flee market in Sweden). It’s good looking and excellent for nuts and does a great job with the hard ends of Parmesan. I can’t live without one so I got two!

For many years I have been collecting all kinds of kitchen tools and gadgets. I just love them. I have so many favorites, from my grandmother’s beautiful and well seasoned cast iron skillet, to vintage deviled egg plates and rolling pins. I love my pizza stone, my kitchen aid mixer, my dog bone cookie cutters. I would say it’s almost next to possible to pin down just what my favorite implement would be. Well, that is, until I met my husband a couple of years ago. My amazing chef husband. It was a perfect match. He cooks me incredible meals and I keep him happy and curiously entertained by pulling out all sorts of magical and useful kitchen items from the drawers. Would love to see his face next time he (who ultimately is my all time favorite kitchen accessory) reaches for the measuring cups…

  • Katie says:

My favorite kitchen tool is my loose tea ball that is shaped like a peanut. Close second is my dutch oven.

  • Carol Anne says:

My favourite kitchen tool is my brain. It’s always dreaming up stuff to make, much to my own satisfaction.

I recently lost my 1/3 measuring cup. Lost it. No idea where it went. I think it was a sign.

  • Michelle says:

My favorite kitchen tool is just a pair of kitchen tongs, I find them to be really useful.

  • Happy Valentine’s Day!

We’ve picked a winner – at random – and it seems you can now add measuring cups to your samurai knives collection, Phil Pearce!!!

Send us an email at caitlin@theurbangrocer.com and we’ll get these little measuring beauties out to your door asap!

    Thanks for all who participated!!!
