Que Bueno! Bar Inopia, Barcelona

Submitted by Erin Carlman Weber on June 4, 2010 – 9:53 amNo Comment

inopia, insideInopia means clueless in Spanish, but judging from the perfectly executed tapas coming out of the kitchen, the name is clearly tongue in cheek. In a city where you can’t toss an oil-cured olive without hitting a tapas joint, Inopia is a bright and bustling oasis churning out superlative versions of Spain’s trademark small dishes.

Standouts include the meaty little white anchovy fillets in a powerful but balanced white vinegar, whisper-thin baked Iberico ham drizzled with an otherworldly olive oil and sprinkled with smoky Spanish paprika, and the bombas d’Eixample. Their take on this traditional working class snack is a crispy, breaded layering of potatoes and ground beef seasoned with cinnamon and cardamom and topped with a dab of garlicky aioli.

InopiaThe place is packed nightly with long lines forming at the door, but your mouth will be grateful for your patience once you dig into that first wee plate of food. Try to grab a seat at the long white marble bar, a prime location for viewing the hustle and bustle of the open kitchen.
