Cookies as Canvas: Sugarbuilt

Submitted by Caitlin Zaino on May 27, 2010 – 4:04 pmOne Comment

sugarbuilt, fennel Fennel bulbs, anatomical hearts, sushi, scenes from Brooklyn, and lingerie: these are among the many artisanal edible works of art from designer Amelia Coulter. With a degree in sculpture, this Brooklyn-based artist now constructs handmade, hand cut sweets using the delectable sugar cookie as her canvas. Using quality organic and local ingredients, Coulter fashions lavender, chocolate red chili, and ginger lemon cookies, among others, into tasty bites of art. Intricate patterns, architecture, design, and scenes from her hood all serve as inspiration for these sugar canvases. They’re almost too good to eat – except that they’re too tasty to pass up.
