The (Food) Artist’s Palate

Scion, 2Food: it’s not just for eating anymore. So think the artists involved in Palate, a soon-to-open exhibition in Los Angeles that aims to ‘explore food as a muse and medium’. The works on display range from cute (Clare Crespo’s crocheted food) to creepy (a mound of skulls made out of bread baked by artist Jeph Gurecka), with a whole lot of arty-foodie goodness in between. Also on the menu: monstrous cake sculptures, a collection of retro candy wrappers, a vintage cookbook library, and a photograph of a death row inmate’s last meal request.

Scion, 1The exhibition, which is being housed in the Scion Installation Space in Culver City, debuts tomorrow, May 22, and runs until June 12. The show is definitely worth a stop if you’re passing through LA, but just be sure to bring some snacks with you – that food’s not for eating.
