Southern Comfort: Callie’s Biscuits

Submitted by Paige McClanahan on February 25, 2010 – 6:03 pmOne Comment

callies biscuitsAs someone that comes from the Southern US, I find it pretty sad when people don’t get what I mean when I talk about biscuits. No, not scones. Not digestive biscuits either. I mean, fresh, homemade biscuits – those flaky, buttery, crispy-on-the-outside indulgences that are the epitome of Southern cooking.

But now, there’s no more excuses for not knowing how good biscuits can be when you can get them delivered right to your door, straight from a kitchen in Charleston, South Carolina. That’s thanks to an outfit called Callie’s Biscuits, a mother-daughter company that whips up four types of the treats: cheddar cheese, country ham, buttermilk and cinnamon. You can order the biscuits by the dozen and they’ll arrive in your mailbox fully cooked – just pop them in the oven, then pass them off as your own the next time you have friends over for dinner. That’s enough to make this Southern belle swoon.
