A Meal Worthy of a Demigod: Gilgamesh, London
If you want a truly epic dining experience, look no further than Gilgamesh – a lavish, cavernous and über-hip bar and restaurant nestled right in the middle of London’s stylish Camden Market.
Named for the ancient Babylonian king who was fabled to be two parts god and one part man, the 15,000-square-foot space groans with opulence. Among its many features: a 50-metre-long bar that’s inlaid with lapis lazuli, a 40-foot-high retractable roof, hundreds of hand-carved wooden chairs, and beaten bronze walls that tell of Gilgamesh’s heroic feats.
But check this place out for the food, not just the scene. Chef Ian Pengelley whips up innovative Pan-Asian fare that will leave your taste buds swooning. Try the avocado and sweet potato tempura (highly recommended), black rice sushi, prawn and banana spring rolls, maybe finishing things off with a helping of green tea creme brulee. A meal worthy of a demigod, indeed.
